Pickleball has become the fastest-growing sport in the nation with around 36.5 million pickleball players in the United States alone. Combining the sports of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, pickleball is accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages. Rules for pickleball are also extremely simple, making it a great introductory and emerging sport.
With its simple rules and social atmosphere, pickleball is the perfect way for high school students to engage in activity while also meeting new people with an interest in the sport. The pickleball club at Science Hill High School was founded just this year by Amy Marcos and Nick Yakubenko. Amy is a junior at SHHS and the president of the club; she started it “because of its inclusivity. Someone who’s never played pickleball or even a sport can pick up a paddle and start playing! It’s so fun and the best part is you can play with or against a friend.”
By organizing regular play sessions and events, the pickleball club aims to provide a fun environment for everyone to improve their skills, meet new people, and share in the excitement of this rapidly growing sport. In the near future, a small tournament will be taking place to encourage players to get involved.
The level of play in our pickleball club ranges from beginners to experienced players, ensuring that everyone can find a suitable match and enjoy the game at their own pace. Whether you’re just starting or looking to refine your skills, consider joining our pickleball club! If you have any questions, feel free to DM their Instagram page: @shhs.pickleball.club.
