SHHS’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) had their annual Fields of Faith Event on October 16th, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. in Kermit Tipton Stadium. FCA is a student- led organization, and as such Fields of Faith was an event started by the national FCA to provide a platform for students to talk directly to their peers about their experiences with God, and how he has impacted their life.
The turnout was outstanding, with nearly 300 students, teachers, parents, and church youth leaders coming out and supporting these students. Four students dedicated or rededicated their lives to Christ that evening. Guests enjoyed dinner during the program, and ate while sitting on blankets and lawn chairs in front of the stage on the football field.
Science Hill’s Fields of Faith consisted of three main components: student testimonies, student- led worship, and a main message. The three student testimonies were given by Science Hill seniors and shared their experiences with God in their daily lives.
Addison Hight, a member of the girls soccer team, shared her experience with a girl she met at camp earlier this year. She told a heartwarming story about her new friend’s questions about Christianity and her coming to christ. It was concluded with the hope that God can work through everyone, no matter your background.
Another athlete, Josiah Hale, told his testimony about his own personal coming to christ. He discussed the people that showed him God’s love and how that changed the way he perceives the world. He emphasizes the importance of a strong christian community around an individual, because he believes that those relationships will prove to be the most fruitful and encouraging friendships one will have.
Evianna Ellington is a member of the girls lacrosse team here at Science Hill, and she told the audience about her upbringing and growing up internationally. She explained the inconsistencies in her life and that the only constant she could rely on was God in her life. She emphasized her mantra that she encourages everyone to remember in their daily lives: “God is here. He always will be. He always has been. And he has a plan for me.”
The student- led worship was outstanding. First Christian Church of Johnson City has generously given up their Wednesday nights for the past three years to worship at fields of faith. The band features several Science Hill students, including Ellen Hong, Will Emmert, Bailey Henson, and Andrew (A.J.) Osborne. They also had a Science Hill alumnus in the band, Bryant Magness (on drums) played a huge role in contributing to the worship flow.
And lastly, Evan Wolfe- a local pastor at Crossroads Christian Church- preached a powerful message to our students about the importance of proclaiming your faith. Many students were touched, and by the altar call at the end of the evening several groups of kids were seen going towards their youth leaders for prayer.
Science Hill’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership team would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who took part, sponsored, and attended the event despite the cold temperatures. Keep your ears peeled next year so you don’t miss the next one!
