The stands were packed in neon. After a whole week of anticipation, everyone was itching to see how the Toppers would fare against the Union Bears. Students slowly filed into the stadium, grabbing snacks and topper merch along the way. People jumped and yelled in their seats as the game finally kicked off, marking the beginning of the big Homecoming Game.
“I’m pretty excited to see how the game goes, it’s always fun to come out now and then and watch the games with my friends.” Says junior Peyton Edward.
Throughout the game, Science Hill remained in the lead and kept a mostly clean slate in terms of penalties. Through hard work, Toppers acquired an interception and a touchdown early into the second. For the rest of the first half, there’s some back and forth, along with a fumble with a mere 30 seconds left in the game. But Toppers pull through, recovering the ball and passing halfway down the field. Right as the first half is about to come to a close, we score a field goal.
After halftime, Science Hill starts with the ball. The Bears recover a fumble, but we recover a fumble right back. We got two more touchdowns in, with Union Bears only getting one. As the game ends, students go wild with Science Hill’s victory 31-7 against the Union Bears.
“While it wasn’t the most entertaining game to watch, I enjoyed coming out and supporting our school. I come out every year and it’s always the highlight of homecoming week.” Says junior Chance Vannoy after the game.
